The department imparts training in Sitar, Sarod, Violin, Flute, Tabla, Pakhowaj, Sreekhol and Manipuri Khol. Emphasis is given on both the theory and practical aspects of these instruments. Students are made familiar with the history, philosophy and different theories of music apart from making them competent to perform on the stage.

Besides, North Indian variety of classical music courses at the post-graduate level cover Karnataki music and Western music as well. Special attention is given to the students so that they can analyse and distinguish between different Ragas and acquire complete control over various Talas.
