The academic activities of the department operate at different levels. At the post-graduate level, the curriculum offers as many as five fields of specialization – Acting, Directing, Script Writing, Theatre and Videography and Production Design. At the graduation or degree level, regular honours course as well as special honours course is offered to students.

The Department of Drama not only trains its students in the theoretical aspects of theatre but also offers ample scope for practical training in acting, directing, script-writing, mass-communication, scenography, stage-lighting, costuming and make-up. The department has a studio-workshop, a stage with an auditorium, a special studio for the videography course as also several rooms for classes and rehearsal work. The department is well-known not merely for its academic achievements that combine teaching and research under the guidance of eminent teachers, but also for its productions that are acclaimed by the theatre-loving people of the country.
