CENTRE FOR GANDHIAN STUDIES
The Centre for Gandhian Studies,
sponsored by the University Grants Commission, was established in the University premise
on August 9, 2000. The Centre aims to grow into a research centre for the study of Gandhi
and Gandhian thought. For this purpose, an initiative has been taken to collect primary
material in the shape of letters, diaries, photographs, memoirs etc. Along with these a
drive has been taken towards documentation of secondary literature on and by Gandhi that
are available in the most important libraries in Kolkata like, the National Library, The
Bangiya Sahitya Parishad Library, Barrackpore Gandhi Memorial Museum Library and numerous
District Libraries. Moreover, the Centre is trying to set up its own library of secondary
works on Gandhi. Some recorded interviews of Gandhians who are no more with us have been
collected here. Copies of records (Documents & Manuscripts) available at the India
Office Library, London, Centre for South Asian Studies, Cambridge, Indian Institute
Library, Oxford (hand written & Xeroxed) are also now preserved. |
